Mrs. Sarah Ann Genzer, age 91 of Wharton died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Wharton following an extended illness. She was born on July 13, 1920 in Lafayette, LA the daughter of the late Robert Dudley Quattlebaum and Saran Ann Mouton Quattlebaum. She married William A. Genzer on April 12, 1940 in Houston, TX. and was a resident of Wharton since 1953. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society. She helped start the original Hospital Volunteers (Candy Stripers) at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She also served as the chairman of the Heart of Gold Charity Ball for many years. She enjoyed drawing and painting. She and her husband Bill were very active in their children’s education from kindergarten through college. She was appointed to represent Holy Family Catholic Church as a charter member and served as the first president of the Wharton County Interfaith Coalition (SHARE) which banded together the churches and synagogue of Wharton to help take care of the needs of the poor in the community with food and clothing. Starting in 1985 and through unsolicited donations and a staff of many volunteers they were able to help families in a temporary crisis with food, clothing, utilities, rent, medical and dental needs. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by a son, William Robert Genzer, a sister, Roberta Mayeaux and an infant brother, Robert Quattlebaum, Jr. Friends may call for visitation starting at 6:00 pm Sunday at the Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her husband, William A. Genzer of Wharton; daughter, Carol Kilian & son-in-law, Kevin, of Daytona Beach; daughter-in-law, Suzette Genzer of Austin, TX; grandchildren and spouses, Scott Ward & wife Heather of Dallas, TX, Shari Berens & husband Chris of Mount Dora, FL, Kelly Kincaid & husband Larry of Jonesboro, AK, Monika Jordan & husband Daren of Fulshear, TX and Bill Genzer & wife Catherine of Wharton; great grandchildren, Aris, Avyn, Celt, Evyr, Steven & Ryann Ward; Austin & Catherine Berens; Jeremiah, Kayleigh and Christian Kincaid; Vivien & John William Jordan; William, Elizabeth, Matthew Genzer and Tristan Downey. Pallbearers will be William C. Genzer, William Rudolph Genzer, Daren Jordan, Kevin Kilian, Scott Ward, Chris Berens and Mickey Reynolds.
