Judith G. Houseworth Mrs. Judith Houseworth, age 93 of Wharton died Friday, June 29, 2012 at a Sweeny nursing home following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 14, 1918 in Schulenberg, Texas a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Vana Jalufka. Judith was raised in the Schulenberg area and attended school in the Blessing area. Mrs. Houseworth had been a resident of Wharton since 1941. Judith married Mr. Alton Lee Houseworth on November 5, 1938 in Blessing. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1972. She worked as a waitress for Petersons Cafe for many years and was the owner of Kings Drive In in Wharton. She was a member of Mt Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton, and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed fishing, dominoes and gardening. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Wayne Houseworth in 1946, her brothers, Mansvert Jalufka and Wilbert Jalufka and grandchild, Joanna Haswell. A Rosary was recited Monday evening, July 2nd, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in the Holy Cross Cemetery in El Campo. Survivors include Doris Marie Teague and husband, Joe, Sr. of Wharton, JoAnn Taylor of Houston, and Sue Rash of Sargent and son, William “Fibber” Houseworth of Glen Flora. Her five grandchildren, Sherri Arena, Joe Teague, Jr., Michelle Prothro, and Elizabeth Taylor also survive, along with ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Her nephews, Billy Jalufka and Aubrey “Butch” Houseworth and niece, Jean White also survive. Pallbearers were Joe Teague, Jr., Casey Prothro, Chaz Prothro, Allen Prothro, Chuck Arena and Alden Garza. Honorary pallbearer was Bill Gilbert. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 506 South East Avenue, Wharton Texas 77488. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
