Virgil Harold Mathews

Virgil Harold Mathews, Jr. Mr. Virgil Harold Mathews, Jr. age 60 of Deer Park, Texas died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in a Galveston Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on November 5, 1951 in Wharton, TX the son of Virgil Harold Mathews, Sr. and Esther Kramr Mathews. Mr. Mathews had been a resident of Deer Park since 1986 and was Methodist by Faith. He graduated from Wharton High School in 1970 and then attended Wharton County Junior College. He was in the transportation business for the past forty years. His hobbies included cattle, farming, John Deere Tractors and participating in tractor pulling contests. He was preceded in death by his father on February 25, 2004. Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Meredith Wende officiating. Cremation followed. Survivors include his wife, Sherrie Langley Mathews of Deer Park; son and daughter -in-law, Todd and Amberly Mathews of Edna, TX; daughters and son-in-law, Kimberly & George Ayala and Brandi Langley all of Deer Park, TX; mother, Esther Mathews of Glen Flora, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. J. Kyle and Cindi Mathews of Plano, TX; grandchildren; Toby, Kourtnee, Khloe, Jonathan, Kathleen, Lauren, Georgie and Addison (Snookem). In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to: Transitional Learning Center, 1528 Postoffice, Galveston, TX 77551.
