Mr. Arthur Martin Koch, age 93 of Wharton died Friday, August 3, 2012 in a Houston hospital following an extended illness. He was born on December 10, 1918 in Rosenberg, TX the son of the late Herman Koch and Minnie Hacker Koch. Mr. Koch was a life-long resident of Wharton County and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army. He was active in farming until his retirement. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Koch, Martha Wittig, Frieda Wittig, & Louise Black, brother, Walter Koch, Sr. and nephews, Walter Koch, Jr., Ernest Wittig and Leroy Wittig. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am TODAY, Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton with Rev. Barry Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include nieces, Judy Acuff & Carolyn Hunziker, Alice Schlessinger, Linda Hunter, Edith Thonsgaard, Helen Thomas and Loraine Leippe and nephews, Edward Koch, Kenneth Koch, Robert Koch, Richard Koch, Robert Wittig, Albert Wittig, Leonard Wittig, Raymond Wittig, Howard Wittig and Herman Wittig. Pallbearers will be Aland Wittig, Glenn Wittig, Stacey Wittig, Brent Acuff, Bret Acuff and Chad Thonsgaard. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 614 Pecan, Wharton, TX 77488.
