Velma Strarup

Mrs. Velma Strarup, age 77, of Wharton died Sunday, August 5, 2012 in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. She was born on December 12, 1934 in Matagorda County, TX, a daughter of the late Charles William Bundick Sr. and Bessie Alice Schultz Bundick. Mrs. Strarup was a longtime resident of Burr. Velma worked at Gulf Coast Medical Center as a switchboard operator for over thirty years. On November 6, 1958, she married Robert Strarup in Columbus. She enjoyed her plants, quilting, dominoes, sewing, and traveling. She was a very caring person, always putting others before herself. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Bobbie Davis. Visitation will be held this evening, Wednesday, August 8th at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 9th at 2pm at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Olson officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bobby Strarup of Wharton, daughters, Jeanie Terronez and husband Daniel of Burr, Leslie Strarup of Burr, and Valarie Korenek and husband, Royce of Wharton, son, Charles Owen Strarup and wife, Michelle of Hungerford, sisters, Betty Bundick, Margie Williams and husband, Fred, and Peggy Lucero all of Bay City, brothers, Charles Bundick Jr. and wife, Evelyn, Hairil Bundick and wife, Sue, Thomas Bundick and wife, Christy, and Richard Bundick and wife, Annie Mae all of Bay City and Paul Bundick and wife, Joyce of Ganado and her brother in law, Walter Davis of Iago. Her grandchildren, Emily Edwards, Armando Terronez, Lauren Strarup, Brian Strarup, Richie Johnson and wife, Callye, Marena Johnson, Alyssa McDougall and husband, Michael, Caleb Korenek and Kayelynn Korenek, and great grandchildren, Abbigail Edwards, Maddilyn Edwards, Jacob Edwards, Jacey Johnson and Wesley Johnson also survive. Pallbearers will be J.W. Edwards, Armando Terronez, Caleb Korenek, Charles Owen Strarup, Daniel Terronez and Royce Korenek.
