Leland Eugene Treybig, Sr.

Leland Eugene Treybig, Sr. Mr. Leland Eugene Treybig, Sr., age 77 of Wharton died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born on July 30, 1935 in Cresent, Texas a son of the late Walter Treybig Sr. and Henrietta Stock Treybig. Mr. Treybig graduated from Crescent Schools and attended College for Barbers in Houston. He married Velma Honc on May 20, 1956 in Wharton. He was a barber all his life, worked and later owned, Sherrill’s Barber Shop. He was part of the ‘Three Stooges’ along with Verlie Sherrill and Red Dettling. Leland was always joking with the boys and played numerous practical jokes on everybody he met. He was also active with the Wharton Little League, serving as a coach, board member, and grounds keeper, and President of the League - many times all at the same time. Leland was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and the JayCees. He recieved ‘Outstanding Citizen of The Year in 1977’. Leland also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, Leland was also preceded in death by his son in law, Bobby McMicken, daughter-in-law Renee Treybig, and brother Lawrence Treybig. Visitation begins on Friday evening, August 31, 2012 at 6 pm. A rosary will be recited at 7pm at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Paul Puthenangady officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include his wife, Velma Treybig of Wharton, daughters, Maureen Voulgaris and husband, David of Wharton, Janice McMicken and fiancé Mark Rath of Wharton and Kelli Treybig of Baytown, sons, Leland Treybig, Jr.of Wharton and Philip Treybig and wife, Dee of Bow, New Hampshire, brother, Walter Treybig, Jr., grandchildren, Clint, Julia, Will and Anah Voulgaris, Jarrett, Whitney and Ryan McMicken, Tyler Treybig, and Garin and Conner Treybig and great grandchildren, Frankie and Ian Brown and Ellie Voulgaris. Numerous nieces, nephews also survive. Pallbearers are Clint Voulgaris, Will Voulgaris, Jarrett McMicken, Ryan McMicken, Tyler Treybig and Raymond Wittig. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Garin Treybig, Conner Treybig, Willie Ford, Verlie Sherrill, Perry Young, Bob Wynn and David Brewer.
