Alberto Rodriguez Garza, Jr. Mr. Alberto Garza, Jr., age 79 of Wharton passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012, in a Wharton nursing home following a brief illness. He was born on July 18, 1933 in Matagorda, TX to the late Alberto Garza, Sr. and Julia Rodriguez Garza. Mr. Garza was a life-long resident of Wharton County and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. On October 2, 1951, he married Geneva Ramirez in Wharton. He worked as an insulator for Texasgulf for many years until his retirement. Alberto enjoyed barbequeing for friends and family, rides to Matagorda Beach, his Texans Football and scratching lottery tickets. In addition to his parents, Alberto was preceded in death by his son, Eugene R. Garza, and brothers, Aaron Garza, George Garza and Hector Ramirez. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation and Rosary were held the night before at the Wharton Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Garza of Wharton, daughters, Stella Cruz of Denton, Evelina Pina and husband, Ray of Eagle Lake, Debbie Arias and husband, Sam Jr. of Wharton, and Sandra Gangstad of Boling, sons, Robert R. Garza and wife, Anita of Wharton and Albert Garza, III and wife, Pat of Boling and Kenneth R. Garza of Boling, daughter in law, Irma B. Garza of Wharton, sisters, Sophia Rivera of Waller and Corina Garza of Needville and brothers, Jessie R. Garza, Sr. of Clute, Santos Garza, Sr. of West Columbia, Reynaldo Garza of West Columbia and Euladio Garza of Wharton. Twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Sam Arias, III, Victor Delgado, Joshua Garza, Jason Gangstad, Anthony Solis, III, and Ray Anthony Pina. Honorary Pallbearers were all his grandsons.
