Gerald (Jerry) Slaughter

Gerald Slaughter Gerald “Jerry” Delbert Slaughter, age 74, of Wharton, died Saturday morning, September 15, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on August 16, 1938 in Wharton, Texas, a son of the late Ira Monroe and Margaret Louine Lacy Slaughter. Jerry was raised in the Wharton area and graduated from Wharton High School. he worked as a contractor in the construction business for many years. He served his country honorably in the United States Marines. On November 11, 1959, he married Sue McFeron in El Campo. Following Cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10 am at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. Mickey Reynolds officiating. Survivors include his wife, Sue Slaughter of Wharton, daughters, Sherri Hopkins and husband, Curtis and Terri Slaughter all of Boling, sons, Jerry “Bubba” Slaughter and wife, Jane of Needville and Perry Slaughter and wife, Jackie of Bay City, grandchildren, Paul Hopkins, Michael Hopkins and wife, Holly, Tiffany Boedeker, Whitney Boedeker, Cori Boedeker, Hannah Slaughter, Ashleigh Slaughter and Aimee Slaughter, great grandchildren, Abbie and Emmie Hopkins, sisters, Janette McDonald of Houston, Leona Ramsey and husband, Jim of Beach Mountain, NC and Linda Fiacco of Banner Elk, NC and brother, Richard Slaughter and wife, Joyce of Fort Davis and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Barker, Donald Drenner, Vincent Hobizal, Gordon Heintschel, Terry Vincent, Dennis Mazel, Don Salyer and Fibber Houseworth, Paul Hopkins, Michael Hopkins and the Graduating Class of “57” of Wharton High School. Memorial contributions may be made to Houston Hospice, Inc, P. O. Box 1417, El Campo, Texas 77437 OR Caney Creek Church, 118 W. Milam, Wharton, TX 77488. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
