Valerio N. Llanes Valerio Nunez Llanes, age 75 of Wharton died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at a Victoria hospital following a short illness. He was born on April 28, 1937 in Yorktown, Texas, a son of the late Santiago Llanes and Francisca Nunez Llanes. Visitation and rosary was held on Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel in Wharton. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton. Valerio was raised in the Yorktown area and attended school there. On September 19, 1954 he married Frances Salazar in Wharton. He worked as a farmer and rancher all his life. Valerio enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Amador Llanes, Hignio Llanes, Cresencio Llanes, and sisters Santos Garza and Ricarda Pena. Survivors include his wife, Frances of Wharton, daughters, Bernie Gonzales and husband, Johnny of Edna, and Barbara Carter and husband Michael of Huntsville, sons, Valerio Llanes, Jr. of Wharton, Joe Llanes and wife, Ashley of Shelby, brothers, Roy Llanes and wife Anita of Houston, Tito Llanes and wife Janie of Wharton and Primitivo Llanes of El Campo and sister, Rosa Hattaway and husband Jerry of Louisiana . His grandchildren, John David Gonzales and wife, Kerri, Bobby Gonzales and wife, Karen, Joni Browning and husband Jason, Matthew Carter and wife, Haley and Thomas Carter and fiancée, Kaci Boley along with great grandchildren, Fayth Gonzales, John Gonzales Jr., Carlos Gonzales, Scarlett Gonzales and Cason Carter also survive. Pallbearers will be John David Gonzales, Bobby Gonzales, Jason Browning, Matthew Carter, Thomas Carter and Michael Salazar.
