Mr. David Mata, age 55 of Wharton died early Friday morning, October 5, 2012 in a Wharton Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was born on June 18, 1957 in Wharton the son of Gil V. Mata and Susie M. Cerrillo Mata. Mr. Mata was a long time resident of Wharton and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. He graduated from Wharton High School in 1976. He worked in medical sales and marketing and also was a display supervisor at Lowe’s. He was a member of the Wharton High School Booster Club, the St. Vicent de Paul Society and was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church. He was preceded in death by his father in 2001 and two sisters, Mary Alice Alemeda in 2000 and Sandra Mata in 2005. Following Cremation, a funeral mass was held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Survivors include his son, Gary Plunkett of Corpus Christi, TX ; his mother, Susie Mata of Wharton; five sisters, Janie Valdez of El Campo, Rosa Mata, Sonya Garcia and Stacy Aguilar all of Wharton; three brothers, Gil C. Mata of Wharton, Rudy Mata of El Campo and Mark Mata of Wharton. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Valdez, Ronnie Valdez, Jerry Valdez, Frank Valdez, Omar Mata, Douglas Mata and John Cerrillo. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Ave., Wharton, TX 77488.
