Concepcion Gaona Mrs. Concepcion Gaona, age 78 of Wharton died early Wednesday morning, October 17, 2012 in Wharton following a sudden illness. She was born on August 15, 1934 in Flatonia, TX the daughter of the late George Delgado and Augustina Cortez Delgado. Mrs. Gaona was a long time resident of Wharton and a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. She married Jeronimo R. Gaona on October 1, 1953 in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2002. She was also preceded in death by an infant son and one brother. A Rosary was recited Thursday evening, October 18, 2012 at the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am Friday, October 19, 2012 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Olga & Gilbert Reyna, Antonia & Harold Matula, Lydia Gaona, Victoria Ocanas, Amalia & Randy Montez, Susie & Mario Garcia all of Wharton, Diane & Ed Garcia of Ft. Worth, TX and Janie & Martin Ramirez, III of Wharton. Sons & daughters-in-law, Jesse & Maria Gaona, Phillip Gaona, George Gaona, James & Paulina Gaona all of Wharton and Florentino & Joann Gaona of El Campo; sisters, Modesta Delgado and Janie Gebara both of El Campo and Antonia Flores of Glen Flora, TX; brothers, Leonard Martinez, Sr., Greg Tovar and Isabel Tovar all of El Campo, TX. twenty- six grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Pallbearers were Jesse V. Gaona, Travis Matula, Ricky Limas, Jeremy Huerta, Tino Gaona, Jr., John Ross Garcia, Martin Ramirez, IV and Chris Reyna. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 506 S. East Ave., Wharton, TX 77488. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
