Lorena Julia Taylor, age 89 of Wharton died Monday, November 19, 2012 in Wharton at a nursing home following a short illness. She was born on August 5, 1923 in El Campo, TX the daughter of Joseph and Julia Reck Koudela. Visitation will begin at 5pm with a Catholic Daughters Rosary recited at 7:00 pm Sunday evening, November 25, 2012 at the Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 26, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Lorena was raised in the Hillje/ El Campo area and attended school there. She married Alfred Otto Taylor on January 3, 1942 in El Campo. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2005. Lorena was a homemaker all her life. Lorena loved her flower garden and enjoyed sharing her flowers with friends and family. She was a Charter Member of the Catholic Daughters, a seventy year member of the KJZT and active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Survivors include her daughter, Karen D. Cox of Byron, California, sons, Gary A Taylor and wife, Geneva of Palacios and Theodore A. Taylor and wife, Elizabeth of West Columbia, brothers, Jody Koudela and wife, Isabel of Hillje and Raymond Koudela of El Campo, grandchildren, Veronica McDonald and husband, Larry, Mark Taylor, Daniel Taylor and wife, Amanda, and Rex Taylor. Pallbearers will be Sam Stoeltje, Don Stoeltje, Larry McDonald, Mark Taylor, Danny Taylor, Rex Taylor, James Lingo and Paul Koudela. The family wishes to thank Mary Taylor for all she has done for Lorena over the past year.
