Manuel Cantu, Jr.

Mr. Manuel Cantu, Jr. age 66 of Boling died December 2, 2012 in a Houston Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on January 8, 1946 in Paige, TX the son of the late Manuel Cantu, Sr. and Carmen De Leon Cantu. Mr. Cantu was a resident of Boling most of his life and was Catholic by Faith. Mr. Cantu was a truck driver for Sterling Vacuum Service in Boling for over thirty years until his retirement. He married Rosalinda Becerra on November 24, 1990 in Wharton. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Cantu. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, raising pigeons and going to the beach. A Rosary was recited at 7:00 pm Wednesday evening, December 5, 2012 at the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Cantu of Boling; daughters, Sandy Cantu of Wharton and Tracy Mendiola & husband Bruce of Eagle Lake; son, Manuel Cantu, III & wife Lydia of Wharton; Step-Children, Natalie Lewis of Houston, Eric V. Rangel and Samuel V. Rangel both of Boling; sisters Rebecca Ratcliff, Rachel Gonzalez and Ernestine Gonzalez all of Giddings, TX.; brothers, Ramiro Cantu and Freddy Cantu both of Giddings, TX, Ino Cantu of Richmond, TX, Eddie Cantu and Frank Cantu both of El Campo. Six Grandchildren three great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Pallbearers were Rico Gonzales, Fabian Cantu, Brian Cantu, Samuel V. Rangel, Eric V. Rangel and Kendrick Lewis. The Family wishes to thank, Ora Lee De Leon for all of her kindness, love and support.
