John Alton Reed

January 22, 1926 — December 2, 2012

John Reed, age 86 of East Bernard, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012, in Sugar Land following a brief illness. He was born on January 22, 1926, in Nottawa, Wharton County, Texas a son of the late John T. Reed and Maude L. Shoemaker Reed. John was a life long resident of Wharton County and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1943. He attended Texas A&M University and served our country in the US Air Corps during World War II. He married Bernadette Faltisek in East Bernard in1948 and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2004. John was a farmer and professional driver until his retirement in 2012. John was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Besides his wife and parents, John was also preceeded in death by his daughter, Linda Susan Reed and brother, Raymond “Cobby” Reed. A memorial rosary was recited Thursday evening, December 6, 2012, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Following cremation, a memorial funeral mass was held at 11:00 am Friday, December 7, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Father Don Ruppert officiating. Survivors include daughter, Leannah Thurman and husband Rick of Houston, sons, Jack Reed and wife Terry of Dallas and Rob Reed and wife Liz of East Bernard, grandchildren, Erin Reed, Andrew Reed, Daniel Reed, Linda Susan Reed, Olivia Thurman, Luke Thurman, Joshua Thurman, Allison McGeever, Emily Reed, Calvin Click, and Patrick Click, and great grandchildren, Pierce Burks and Myles Click. Honorary Pallbearers are all of his grandchildren.
