L. D. Gassett Funeral services for L. D. Gassett, age 91 of Wharton will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Wharton with Rev. Meredith Wende officiating and assisted by Rev. Don Storey and Rev. Paul Thomasson. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Friends may call for visitation, Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2013 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Wharton Funeral Home. Mr. Gassett was born on June 5, 1921 in Okesa, OK the son of the late John Wesley Gassett and Lillie May Gelruth Gassett. He has been a resident of Wharton since 1976 and an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also on the First Board of SHARE and worked with numerous local organizations. He married Patricia Ann Hutchison on February 23, 1968 in Orange, CA. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Gassett of Wharton; daughters, Barbara McCleron of Idaho and Betty Williams of Covina, CA; son, David Gassett of Redfield, AR., step-sons, Dave Turner and Wayne Turner both of Wharton, Bruce Turner of Spotsylvania, VA and Craig Turner of New Hartford, N. Y. Fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the Church or Charity of your Choice.
