Mrs. Josephine Ann Koenig (JO) Vacek, age 92 of Wharton died Friday, January 18, 2013 in a Humble, Texas hospice facility. She was born on March 19, 1920 in Hungerford, TX the daughter of the late John F. Koenig and Philomena Krejci Koenig. She was a graduate of St. Ludmila’s Academy in Shiner, Texas. She married Sylvester S. Vacek on November 25, 1940 in Hungerford, TX. They were long-time residents of Houston before moving to Wharton in 1978. She was a Senior Administrator for Humble/ ExxonMobil for thirty-three years until her retirement. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 1990, the KJZT and an associate member of the KJT, and a member of the Houston ExxonMobil Annuitant Organization. Friends may call for visitation after 6:00 pm Tuesday. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father James Adjei-Buor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 after seventy years of marriage and her sister, Sister M. Cecilia Koenig in 2000. Survivors include her daughter, Joanne Vacek of The Woodlands; her son, Sam Vacek of Porter, TX; and grandchildren, Samantha and Donald Vacek. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your personal choice
