Edna Pruitt Maler

Mrs. Edna Pruitt Maler, age 89 of Clute and a former long-time resident of Wharton died Saturday night, February 2, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on November 20, 1923 in Houston, TX the daughter of the late Harry Elmer Pruitt and Elsa Alcalan Pruitt. Mrs. Maler was a resident of Wharton County from 1974 until 2002 when she moved to Brazoria Co., TX. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She married August William Maler on March 10, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1989. A son, Patrick Maler in 1995 and a brother, Thomas Pruitt, also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters Jeannette Maler of Clute and Sylvia Vacek and husband Pete of Needville; sons, John Maler and wife Michelle of Montgomery and Howard Anthony Maler of Cedar Creek, TX. nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were Jerry Whitley, Charles Vasek, Dusty Chichester, Steven Svatek, Lee Miller and Donnie Seibert. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the American Heart Association.
