Margarita G. Rodriguez Mrs. Margarita Gaona Rodriguez, age 94 of Wharton died Monday, February 25, 2013 in a Wharton Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on February 22, 1919 in Rio Hondo, TX the daughter of the late Toribio Gaona and Rita Rodriguez. Mrs. Rodriguez was a resident of Wharton County most of her life and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. She married Samuel Rodriguez in October of 1940 in Wharton County and along with two daughters, he preceded her in death in 1972; Rita Rodriguez on June 24, 2009 and Charlene Rodriguez in 1946. A Rosary was recited Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass was held at at 2:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Cremation followed. Survivors include her daughters, Eva Garcia and Darlene Estrada of Wharton and Gloria Lopez of Richmond; son, Manuel Rodriguez of Wharton; sister, Guadalupe Ramos and brother, Gumecindo Gaona both of Wharton; sons-in-law Pete Lopez of Richmond and Alphonso Rodriguez of Houston and former sons-in-law Natividad Garcia of Wharton and Mike Perez of Palacios; Stella Rivas Rodriguez of Wharton. Mrs. Rodriguez is also survived by twenty one Grandchildren, forty four great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were; Manuel Rodriguez, Mario Lopez, Paul Perez, Pete Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Alex Garcia, Pete Lopez and Charlene Perez. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
