Vivian Franklin Salinger

Vivian Salinger Mrs. Vivian Franklin Salinger, age 99 of Wharton died Monday, March 4, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on January 23, 1914 in San Antonio, TX the daughter of the late William Franklin and Lillian Akabas Franklin. Mrs. Salinger has been a resident of Wharton most of her life and was a member of Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston. She worked as a bookkeeper with Franklin Furniture of Wharton for over fifty years until her retirement. She was a member of the Shearith Israel Congregation Sisterhood, and long time Chairman of their Torah Fund Campaign. She also served as a hospital volunteer at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton for over fifty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1966, two daughters, Linda Salinger and Anne Salinger Sherman, and a twin brother, Mervin Franklin. Graveside services and interment were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Shearith Israel Cemetery in Wharton with Rabbi David Rosen officiating. Survivors include her son, Maury Salinger of Wharton; grandson and wife Josh & Jill Sherman of Houston; great grandchildren, Allie Marie Sherman, Samuel Hayden Sherman and Max Allen Sherman; nephews. Gordon Franklin and wife Linda of Sugar Land and Rabbi Wayne Franklin and wife Anne of Providence, RI. The family wishes to thank special caregiver, Zeddy Chelule, for the kindness and care with which she treated Vivian in the last few months of her life. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Congregation Beth Yeshurun’s Shearith Israel Cemetery Fund, 4525 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77096, or the charity of your choice. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
