Mr. Reyes Mejorado, Sr., age 83 of Wharton died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in a Wharton Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on February 25, 1930 in Raymondville, TX the son of the late Juan Mejorado and Jessita Saens Mejorado. Mr. Mejorado has been a resident of Wharton for the past fifty-eight years and was Catholic by Faith. He married Maggie Lopez on October 9, 1953 in Wharton and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1997. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Juan Mejorado and two half brothers, Juan Mejorado and Bennie Mejorado, and a half-sister, Lillie Garcia. He worked as a foreman with George Brown Lease Service for twenty-five years until his retirement on February 1, 1995. His favorite hobbies included fishing and enjoying his family, friends and tejano music. A Prayer Service was held Friday evening, March 15, 2013 at the Wharton Funeral Home and a Funeral Service was held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 16th. at the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Ramirez officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Reyes and Christie Mejorado, Jr. and David and Cindy Mejorado all of Wharton; long-time companion, Janie Compain; Sisters, Eva Rodriguez and Maria Garcia both of Wharton, Socora Pena and half-sister, Tomasa Mejorado both of Rio Grande City, TX; half-brother, Frank Mejorado of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, David Mejorado, Jr., Miranda Marie McKelvy and Melinda Mejorado and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Noah Lopez, Gilbert Lopez, Johnnie Garcia, Bennie Mejorado, Edgar Sanchez, Richard Rodriguez, Jarred Hohensee and David Perez. Honorary were Daimus Lopez, George Lopez, Toma s Garcia, Bob Villarreal and Sam Longoria. In lieu of usual remembrances the family request memorials to SPOT, P. O. Box 642, Pierce, TX 77467.
