Hortense Peikert Glenn, age 96, of Hungerford passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 in a Wharton hospital of natural causes. She was born on September 13, 1916 in Alleyton,, Texas, the daughter of Julius and Bertha Grewe Peikert. She was the eighth child born to the family of ten siblings. Hortense was raised in the Alleyton area and graduated from Columbus High School. On February 4, 1937 she married William Henry Glenn in Lissie, TX . He preceded her in death on May 1, 1978. A homemaker all her life, Hortense enjoyed her gardening, her chickens, a good game of 42 and straight, and was very active in her church, First Baptist here in Wharton. She was a member of the Joy Bell Singers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, William Lee Glenn and David Leon Glenn, and grandson, David Leon Glenn Jr. Visitation will begin at 8:30 am Saturday, March 30, at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10: 30 am Saturday March 30, 2013 at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Melton officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters, Edith Borak, and Bonnie Darroh, son Gerald Wayne Glenn, and daughter in law, Sherry Guill Glenn, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
