Mrs. Sandra Spano, age 74 of Wharton died Friday, April 5, 2013 in a Wharton Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born on January 18, 1939 in Seminole, OK the daughter of the late Melvin Frauenberger and Gladys Waters Frauenberger. Mrs. Spano was a long-time resident of Wharton and a member of the First Baptist Church in Wharton. She graduated from Wharton High School in 1957 and later graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1961. She taught in the Wharton ISD for thirty one years before her retirement. She married Joseph James Spano on May 31, 1959 in El Campo and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2010. Two brothers, George and Dennis Frauenberger also preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Melton officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Robyn Spano and Jerry Tejada of Houston and Krista Spano and Ervin “Bo” Kucera of Wharton; sister, Eloise Havard of Lufkin, TX and three grandchildren, Alexis Tejada, Ashley Spano Ramirez and Katie Camacho. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Pallbearers were; Bo Kucera, Jerry Tejada, Charles Chambers, Bobby Creamer, Jim Mullino and Morris Dean. Honorary Pallbearers were Merrell (Doc) Barfield and Vernon Tyus. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the charity of your choice.
