Martina Ballejo

Mrs. Martina Ballejo, age 84 of Wharton died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at home following an extended illness. She was born on December 14, 1928 in Weimar, TX the daughter of the late Florentino Garcia and Herlinda Diega Sanchez. Mrs. Ballejo has been a resident of Wharton most of her life and was a member of the Temple Beth El Baptist Church in El Campo. She married Magdaleno “Tony” Ballejo, Jr. on April 27, 1948, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1996. She was also preceded in death by son Joel Ballejo and sister Herminia Bernal. She worked for Wharton Steam Laundry and Lone Star Cleaners for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, growing flowers and attending church functions. A visitation will be held beginning at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2013 with a Wake Service to be held at 6:00 pm at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 8, 2013 at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Ramiro Jaime officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Jimmy Danas, Patsy Ballejo and Richard Salinas, and Martina and Alejandro Garcia all of Wharton and sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Maria Ballejo of Wharton and Magdaleno and Gloria Ballejo, III of Nixon, Texas, eighteen grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Josh Ballejo, Eric Ballejo, Steven Danas, Jimmy Danas, Jr., David Ballejo, William Ballejo, Joe-Ross Ballejo, Mark Gusman, Christopher Gusman, Henry Gusman, II, and Andrew Gusman. Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters, Cynthia Danas Chavez, Michelle Hernandez, Christina Ballejo, Barbara Ballejo, Victoria Rodriguez, Angela Gusman, and Veronica Garcia.
