Mrs. Joan Margaret Nuspliger Miller, age 63 of Sugar Land and a former resident of Wharton died Monday, April 1, 2013 in a Houston Hospital following an eleven month battle with cancer and a brief illness. She was born on November 19, 1949 in Lawville, New York the daughter of Charles Stewart Nuspliger and Ruby Lee Koehler Nuspliger. Joan was a resident of Sugar Land for the past six years and a former resident of Missouri City, TX from 1978 to 2006. She worked for the University of Texas Medical School in Houston for the past twenty years and served most recently as an Administrative Services Officer. Joan graduated from Wharton High School in 1968 and was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX. She served as a Committee Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for years. The Nuspliger family and co-workers referred to her as a “peacemaker” to all. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Stewart Nuspliger Sr. and a brother, Charles Stewart Nuspliger, Jr. A Funeral Mass was held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 5, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Meredith and Wade Watassek of Sugar Land, TX, Ashley and Jared Bailey of Helotes, TX and Courtney and Brett Nelson of Tomball, TX; her mother, Ruby Nuspliger of Wharton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Michael Coppinger of LaGrange, TX, Patsy Schultz of Richmond, TX, Mary and Ed Knight of Weimar, TX and Phyllis Massey and Denny Morgan of Belden, NE; grandchildren, Bryce, Ryan and Ty Watassek, Mathew and James Bailey, Madison Sturhan and Eli Nelson. Also her extended family and friends, Gene Miller, George Carpenter, and the University of Texas Medical School co-workers. Pallbearers were Wade Watassek, Jared Bailey, Brett Nelson, Shawn Coppinger, Colin Coppinger and Brian Sturhan.
