Felipe R. Miniel, Jr.

Mr. Felipe R. Miniel, age 93 of Wharton died Saturday, April 13, 2013 in a Wharton Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was born on October 17, 1919 in Berclair, TX the son of Felipe Miniel and Refugia Rivera Miniel. Mr. Miniel has been a resident of Wharton for over sixty years and was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U. S. Air Force. He married Dominga Ortiz on August 15, 1947 in Wharton and she preceded him in death on May 19, 1995. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Abundio, Elias, Pedro and Isaac Miniel and two sisters, Lucinda Givens and Virginia Savala. He was a member of the VFW Post in Wharton. His hobbies included gardening and being outdoors. Friends may call for visitation from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm TODAY, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home and a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Wharton Funeral Home with Pastor Pablo Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 87 of Wharton. Survivors include his daughter, Refugaia Morin and husband John of Wharton; sons, David Miniel and wife Eunise of Wharton and Johnny Guadalupe Miniel of Houston; sisters, Juana Mata, Elvira Avina and Cruz Acosta all of Houston; brothers Daniel Miniel of Denver, CO. and Eliseo Miniel of Houston; Eight Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Bethel Pentecostal Church, 419 S. Sunset, Wharton, TX 77488.
