Adeline Marie Schindler

February 2, 1916 — April 15, 2013

Adeline Marie Zatopek Schindler of Wharton, TX left this world for her heavenly home on April 15, 2013 at the age of 97. She was born in La Grange, TX on Feb 2, 1916, the oldest child of Frank and Sophie Strnadel Zatopek. Adeline attended school in Ellinger, TX through the 8th grade, when her family moved to the Louise area. She graduated high school from Plainview Community School in 1934. After high school Adeline attended Modern Beauty College in Houston, graduating in 1938 as a licensed cosmetologist. She worked in local beauty salons in El Campo and Wharton, and later became co-owner of Carlgates Beauty Salon in Wharton. Adeline married her childhood friend and true love B L “Bennie” Schindler on June 24, 1940. When B L went in to the service during World War II Adeline was pregnant with their first child. B L left for Europe on Dec 6, 1943, and Adeline gave birth to their first child Cutie the next day. While her husband was overseas during the war years Adeline and Cutie lived with her parents in El Campo. After BL returned home their family grew and she transitioned to the role of full-time homemaker. Adeline raised their 5 children while B L worked in the oil fields. While raising children and maintaining a good home for the family were her primary focus, Adeline had many hobbies. She loved to dance and fish, and various trophies adorn the walls of her home as a testament to her fishing prowess. Family gatherings were important to Adeline, and she enjoyed spending time at the family place in Matagorda, where there was always room for “one more”. Later in life she and B L had many adventures traveling all over with their dear friends Scottie and Norma Jean House. Adeline belonged to the Texas Cosmetology Commission and maintained her license to practice to this day. Adeline was a devout Catholic, and member of Holy Family and St. John’s Catholic Churches. She was active in both churches Altar Societies, belonged to Catholic Daughters, and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Adeline is survived by her children Adeline “Cutie” Sims and husband Tim of Lake Jackson, Susan Radley and husband Gary of El Campo, Karen Schmermund of El Campo, Bernard L Schindler Jr “Buddy” Schindler and wife Tracy of Missouri City, and Camille “Cammy” Janik and husband Dale of Sugar Land. Grandchildren are James Zwahr Jr., Stephanie Hastings, Clint Radley, Heath Radley, Taylor Radley, Brooke Dorotik, Brandie Bodungen, Britni Key, Ben Schindler, Adam Schindler, Cole Schindler, Jourdan Janik, and Courtlan Janik. Also carrying on her legacy are 14 great-grandchildren. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband B L, one brother CJ Zatopek and two sisters Laverne Kallina and Lulu Lenderman. She was the last of her generation. Pallbearers will be her nine grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her four granddaughters. Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Wharton Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, the Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. A private burial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Hospice Support, Inc., P O Box 1417, El Campo, TX 77437
