Lucy Talas, age 90 of East Bernard, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, in Sealy following an extended illness. She was born on December 3, 1922, a daughter of the late Joe and Emilie Vaclavik Orsak. Lucy married Joe F. Talas, Sr. on September 17, 1945 in East Bernard. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1995. She was a homemaker all her life. Lucy enjoyed sewing, quilting, making kolaches, coupon shopping and bingo. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Besides her parents and husband, Lucy was preceeded in death her son, Allen Talas, brother, Jerome Orsak and sister, Mary Zientek. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 am on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Don RuppertRobert officiating. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Eckelberg and husband, Gary of Sealy, Yvonne Naiser of East Bernard, Patsy Verm and husband Charles of Sealy, sons, Joe F. Talas Jr. and wife, Linda of Hungerford, James Talas of East Bernard, and Kenneth Talas and wife, Angelia of East Bernard, sister, Marcella Karasek of East Bernard, brother Bennie Orsak of East Bernard and sister in law, Albina Orsak of East Bernard. 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildreen also survive. Pallbearers were Joey Talas, Jason Talas, Jimmy Talas, John Talas, Thomas Verm, Chad Eckelberg and Ryan Eckelberg. Honorary pallbearers included Klay Marik, John Grimi, Chase Ashorn, Eric Youngblood, Patrick McNeely and Kenneth Talas, Jr. If desiring, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, PO Box 1325, East Bernard or to the Catholic Daughters of America.
