Margaret Sue Scheller

Mrs. Margaret Sue Frankum Scheller, our precious mother and Nana died tragically Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Wharton, Texas, at age 83. She was born on April 18, 1930 in Wharton, Texas to the late Major and Mabel Rhea Frankum. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Wharton and Glen Flora, having graduated from Wharton High School in 1947. She attended Wharton County Junior College and graduated with an education degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College. Margaret married the love of her life Donald Elvin Scheller on June 10, 1951 in Glen Flora, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2000. Margaret was a teacher in Wharton ISD for 42 years, with the majority of those years teaching history at Wharton High School. She inspired and touched the lives of many young people. After retirement, she substituted at Wharton High School and owned and operated her small business. Margaret was a long-time active member of the First United Methodist Church in Wharton and served in many leadership roles. Margaret loved Wharton and was always active in the Wharton community. She served on the Wharton Historical Society, American Cancer Society, the Wharton Beautification Committee, and Wharton Cemetery Committee. She also served on the Wharton County Youth Rodeo Scholarship Committee and the Wharton County Youth Alumni Board. Many of the historical markers in the Wharton area were due to the efforts of Margaret. The most important thing in her life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader and attended all of their activities. She became a familiar face among their friends in the Katy community. She was a loyal supporter of the Wharton Tigers. Margaret loved socializing, playing bridge, eating out, shopping at Dillards, and riding around in her car. Nana lived life to the fullest, was strong in faith and character, and was fun to be around. Survivors include her daughters, Marsha Kaye Smith and husband, Jim; and Terri Susan Youngblood and husband, David, all of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brent Youngblood and wife, Amy; Kelly Youngblood Starr and husband, Drew; Julie Youngblood Fuda and husband, Frank; Allison Smith Ryser and husband, Drew; Stuart Smith; and Kevin Smith. Great grandchildren are Caroline and Carson Ryser and Frank R. Fuda, III. Cousins include Ann Maddox, Gayle Barrett, Judy Barbour, Maryann Rhea, Nyma Wiles, and her aunt, Edna Frankum Woolley. Special friends include Billye, Cassie, and Betty Parr. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Wharton, Texas with Rev. Marlin Fenn officiating. Burial will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brent Youngblood, Drew Starr, Drew Ryser, Kevin Smith, Stuart Smith, and Frank Fuda. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Barker, Jason Barker, Wayne Maddox, Joe Urbanovsky, Sr., Joe Urbanovsky, Jr., and Judge Susan Lowery. If desiring, memorials can be made to the Donald and Margaret Scheller Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Prosperity Bank, Wharton, Texas.
