Mr. Oscar Sandoval Martinez, age 81 of Rosenberg and a former resident of New Gulf and Ashwood, TX passed away Friday evening, June 21, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Old gulf, Texas a son of the late Juan Manuel and Herminia Sandoval Martinez. Mr. Martinez was a resident of Wharton County for many years, growing up in New Gulf and attending Boling schools. Oscar married Noemi Andrade on August 1, 1950 in Wharton. He worked for Texasgulf Inc. for many years, becoming a station operator before his retirement in 1993. Mr. Martinez enjoyed his garden, watching his Western movies and supported his kids, and grandkids in their sports. The Dallas Cowboys was his team of choice. A son, Oscar Martinez Jr, and siblings, Ernest Martinez, Elva M. Pena, Rosalva Garza, and Herminia Garza preceded him in death. A prayer service was held on Monday evening at the Wharton Funeral Home, and funeral services were held on Tuesday June 25 at 11 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Pena officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Colby Blackmore, Chase Blackmore, Ryan Martinez, Stephen Martinez, Jordan Martinez and Cody Boatwright. Survivors include his wife, Noemi Martinez of Rosenberg, daughters, Anna Jaime (Mario) San Antonio, and Irma Blackmore (Bill) Richmond; sons, Jason Martinez (Kelli) of Rosenberg and Robert Martinez and fiancée, Heather Callison of Houston. Sisters, Olga Blanco of Corpus Christi, Delia Luera (Emilio) Bay City, and Rosalinda Mireles ( Jessie) Bay City; brother, Adelaido S. Martinez and wife Inez of Boling, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Houston Area Parkinson Society, 2700 Southwest Fwy, Suite 296, Houston, Texas 77098.
