Pete August Chumchal

Pete August Chumchal Sr., age 78 of Wharton died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in a Houston hospital following an illness. He was born in Wharton, TX on January 9, 1935, a son of the late Joe Chumchal Sr. and Mary Knesek Chumchal. Pete was a life-long resident of Wharton County and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Pete was a welder with TexasGulf Sulphur for many years. He had a knack for fixing things to make them work better. Pete enjoyed fishing, hunting, a good game of dominoes, and gardening. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie, Joe, Jr., and sister, Martha Janik. Visitation was held on Thursday, June 27 at Wharton Funeral Home. A rosary was recited at 10:30 am Friday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church with a funeral service starting at 11 am with Father Robert Knippenberg officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include his best friend, Agnes Wagner, daughters, Shirley Webernick and husband David, of Blessing, Janet Sledge and husband, Mark of Kermit, Jeanie Doyle and husband, Chris of Plano and Ginger Cruikshank and husband, Tom, of Richardson, sons, Pete Chumchal, Jr. and wife, Susan of Katy, Roger Chumchal of Houston, Darrell Chumchal of Edna, and Michael Chumchal and wife, Ann of Katy. Sister, Mary Lee Kubena of Edna, brothers, Ben Chumchal and wife, Ann of Wharton, Daniel Chumchal, Sr. and wife Clara of Wharton, and Louis Chumchal of Hungerford. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers were Tyler Chumchal, Myles Chumchal, Garrett Chumchal, Nicholas Chumchal, Zack Webernick, Adam Webernick, and Ryan Villarreal, with Pete Chumchal, III (Trey), Courtney Chumchal, Lacey Chumchal, Kindell Villarreal, Stephanie Luttrell and Blake Sledge serving as honorary pallbearers.
