Edna Merrifield, age 85, of Wharton passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in a Sugar Land hospital following a brief illness. She was born on September 27, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late Clyde Berle and Anna Barker Malone. Edna was raised in the Del Rio area, and considered it her home. She graduated from Eagle Pass High School. She worked for Security Bank and Trust for over 40 years as a bank teller. Edna was a member of the wives and daughters of Old Trailriders of Texas, and was a member of and past officer of the Wharton Business and Professional organization. Edna was also a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Ashley Black Krajca, Kasi and Cody Black. Graveside services were held on Friday July 5, 2013 at 1:00 pm in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. John McCord officiating. Survivors include her daughters, Donna Stephens and husband, Chuck of Eagle Lake, Dorothy Kopeck of College Station, Patti Owens of Rock Island, sons, Clyde Black and wife, Claire of Lovelady and Clifton Black and wife, Dana of Wharton, sisters, Dorothy Rogers of Alto, niece Jolee Phillips, grandchildren, Clint Hudson, Jill Torres, Chuckie Stephens, Clayton Black, Colleen Falls, and Jordan Kopecek and great grandchildren, Tyler, Hunter, Tanner, Connor, Lila, Braydon, Caleb and Carla.
