Bessie Ann Jackson, age 90 of Brazoria and formerly of Mercedes, TX died Thursday, August 29, 2013 in a Brazosport hospital following a brief illness. She was born on January 22, 1923 in Hungerford Texas, the daughter of the late Adolph Anton and Frances Marie Chumchal Zahn. Bessie was raised in Hungerford and graduated from school in East Bernard in 1941. On February 1, 1947, she married Dolson “Jack” Jackson in Mercedes, Texas. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1990. Bessie worked for the Railway Express Company for many years during harvest season in the Rio Grande Valley. She latter attended and graduated from Pan American University with a Bachelors Degree. She became a teacher in Mercedes. After the death of her husband, she moved to the Rosenberg area. Bessie enjoyed cooking, yardwork, reading, farm life, and being with her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. Visitation will be held from 6 till 9 pm with a rosary recieted at 7 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers include Michael Jackson, Stephen Jackson, Andrew Jackson, James Slaughter, Lanier Chumchal and Glenn Jackson. Survivors include her daughter, Frances Slaughter and husband, James of Brazoria, son, Michael Jackson and wife, E.J. of Rosenberg, grandsons, Stephen and Andrew Jackson.
