Charles Victor “Chuck” Butcher, age 65 of Boling, Texas passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 in a Houston hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 3, 1947 in Houston, a son of the late Percy Claire Butcher, Sr. and Vera Moulliet. Chuck was born and raised in the Houston area, attending Mt Carmel and graduating from St Thomas High School. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and later earned a Master’s degree in English. He also earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria. Chuck began his educational career in the Tarkington School District and continued in Calhoun ISD. In 1986, he moved to Wallis and the Brazos ISD, where he became the high school principal. In 1992, Chuck moved to Boling ISD where he became Assistant Superintendent followed by the Superintendency in 1993, where he served until his retirement in December 2010. Chuck married Linda Acton Beard on July 12, 1997 in Houston. He was very active in the Lions Club in every community in which he lived, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus member of the Wallis Council, enjoyed coaching his son in little league, and while living there, managed the Port Lavaca swimming pool. He was a very friendly person who never met a stranger. Chuck also cherished Linda and his “Date Night” at the movies. He was a member of St. Joseph’ Catholic Church in Boling for many years. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13 after 5 pm with a parish rosary recited at 7pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers include: Christopher Butcher, Elaine Tackett, Steve Tackett, Dustin Regier, Brent Regier, and Scott Butcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Adler, Don Montier, Dr. Julius Cano, Wade Stidevent, Frank Rejsek, Sammy Turner, Dwight Winkler, Percy Butcher, Paul Butcher, Jesse Tollett, Bill Hebert and Pete Kucera. Survivors include his wife, Linda Butcher of Boling, daughter, Elaine Claire Tackett and husband, Steve, Jr. of Rosenberg, son, Christopher Matthew Butcher of Wharton, stepson, Ryan O’Connell and Diana Winters of San Antonio, granddaughter, Molly Isabel O’Connell of San Antonio, sister, Anne Regier and husband, Gary of Pearland, brother, Percy Claire Butcher III, DDS and wife, Patsy of Houston, and Paul Butcher and wife, Janet of Houston, aunt, Marilyn Moulliet of Mandeville, LA, nephews, Dustin Regier and wife, Meaghan, Brent Regier, Scott Butcher and wife, Laurin, great-nephew, Jacob, niece Leslie Whited and husband, Glenn and Chris and Elaine’s mother, Marcia Butcher, and many friends and colleagues.
