James Owen “Jimmy” Hines, 70 of Glen Flora went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday September 10, 2013 surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on December 3, 1942 in Houston to the late Walter B and Dovie Simpson Hines. After graduating from Aldine High School, James joined the U.S. Army and served overseas in Korea. He then went on to work 33 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a repairman and 10 years for Wal-Mart as a door greeter. James married Katherine Foss on September 16, 1972in Houston and through this union three sons were born. He enjoyed fishing, riding his tractor, working on his land, and feeding his deer, especially “Bertha”. James loved the Lord, his family and life. He never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Lee Hines and sister, Ruby Lee Bonner. Survivors include his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Hines, James “Jimmy” Hines II, Randy Hines and wife, Lucy, granddaughter Theresa Joy, grandsons John-Matthew, Pio, and Andrew, brothers Johnny Hines, Walter B. Hines Jr. and wife, Bonnie, Glenn Curtis Hines, sisters, Neita Jane Bridgeman, Kathleen McKinney and husband, Charlie, sisters in law, Emily Foss and Cynthia Wendeland brother in law, Larry Wendel, numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog, Kelee. Funeral services will be held at the Wharton Funeral Home on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Mark Thrift officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 1 until the service time. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in El Campo.
