Raymond L. Viktorin Sr, age 86 of Hungerford, Texas, passed away on Sunday October 13, 2013. He was born on November 28, 1926 in Hungerford to the late Joseph and Vlasta Polasek Viktorin. Raymond was born and raised in the Hungerford area and attended school there. He graduated from Wharton High School. He married Othelie “Tillie” Svoboda on February 19, 1949 in Hungerford. He worked as a farmer for all of his life. Raymond and Tillie also owned and operated a grain storage facility and a fertilizer business over the years. Raymond loved hunting and flounder fishing, card games, especially Canasta and Rook, going to the casinos and dancing. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and a 3rd degree member of the Wharton Knights of Columbus. Visitation was held on Monday evening, October 14, from 6 till 9 pm, with a rosary recited at 7pm at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial followed in St John Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford. Pallbearers include Jimmy Johnson, Brian Cervenka, Dyer Schlitzkus, Stephen Svoboda, Trey Viktorin, Derek Merta, Tobin Synatachk, Mark Viktorin, Matt Sciba and Ricky Smith. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Tillie Viktorin of Hungrford; daughters, Patricia Cervenka of Wharton, Sandra Smith and husband, Ricky of Richmond, and Susan Johnson and husband, Jimmy of Victoria, sons, Raymond Viktorin Jr. and wife, Sharon of El Campo, and Larry Viktorin and wife, Dee Ann of Wharton, sister in law, Dorothy Viktorin and brother in law, Johnny Svoboda and wife, Sue. Grandchildren are Kelly Jansky, Melissa Synatschk and husband, Tobin, Raymond “Trey” Viktorin, III and wife, Charlene, Michelle Sciba and husband, Matt, Brian Cervenka, Brooke Merta and husband, Derek, Christie Viktorin, Vanessa Schlitzkus and husband, Dyer, Evan Johnson and Addison Johnson and seven great grandchildren.
