Inez Martinez

Inez Agnes Martinez, age 88 of Boling, TX died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. She was born on April 21, 1925 in Bay City, a daughter of the late Gorgonio and Herlinda Ortiz DeLeon. Inez was raised in Newgulf and graduated from Boling High School. She obtained her nursing license and worked at Newgulf hospital for over 23 years. She later worked in a Wharton nursing home. She married Adelaido S. Martinez on August 24, 1947 in Newgulf. She enjoyed dances, cooking for friends and family, taking care of her family and the Houston Astros. A.S. and Inez were members of the Houston Astro Booster Club, often traveling with the team to out of town games and events. Inez was also a member of Mt Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine siblings. Inez was survived by her husband of 66 years, A.S Martinez of Boling, sons, Adelaido J Martinez and wife Mary G. of Pharr and Edward Martinez and wife, Yvonne of Newgulf, sisters, Sylvia Ortiz and husband, Joe of Boling, and Mary Trevino of Boling, brother, Arturo DeLeon of Pomona, CA, sisters-in-law, Rosalinda Mireles, Delia Luera and Olga Blanco, grandchildren, Adelaido J Martinez II, Joey Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Gabby Martinez, Kelly Elliott, Edward J. Martinez and Emily Mangum, great grandchildren, Tom Elliott II, Zeni Elliott, Daniel Martinez, Phoenix James Martinez, Saydie Martinez, Ediee Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Joshua Martinez and Aubrey Martinez and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held on Friday evening, November 22, 2013 at Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary receited at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Mt Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Rev. Mr. David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers included A.J. Martinez, Jr, Joey Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Edward Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Tom Elliott, Tom Elliott II, and Phoenix Martinez.
