Eline Pekar

September 18, 1928 — January 7, 2014

Etheline Eline Kalmus Pekar, 85, of Wharton, Texas, passed away Tuesday, January 7th, 2014, after a short illness. Eline was born September 18, 1928, in Taiton, Texas to parents Joe and Clara Zbranek Kalmus. Freddie Alfred Pekar and Eline were married on November 16, 1948 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Needville, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1971. Eline was a Nurse’s Assistant at Rugeley and Blasingame Hospital in Wharton in the late 40’s, and later became a cashier at Miska’s Drive-In until retirement in 1994. She is survived by her sons: Freddie Pekar and wife Patricia, Gary Pekar and wife Rosalie, Douglas Pekar and wife Melinda all of Wharton; her daughters: Theresa Pekar of Wharton, Debra Pekar-Arias and husband Julian of Clute; grandchildren: Dusty Poole and husband James of Rosenberg, Jennifer Guillory and husband Todd of Tomball, Jason Pekar and wife Massiel of Spring, Joseph Arias and Ariel Arias both of Clute; Great Granddaughter: Kylee Pekar of Spring; Brothers: Jimmy Kalmus of Rosenberg, Lawrence Kalmus and wife Zanelle of Henderson; Sister: Delores Hanke and husband Norman of Cuero; several nieces and nephews that loved her so much. Eline was preceded in death by her husband Freddie Alfred Pekar, and her parents Joe and Clara Kalmus. We all loved Eline dearly and will feel a great void in our lives as she was an inspiration to all of us. She loved baking all sorts of things such as cakes, kolaches, and homemade rolls. She had to make everyone a homemade German Chocolate cake every year for their birthday. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and loved the holidays because she would get to see everyone. She enjoyed word puzzles, listening to polkas, watching the Catholic Channel, and praying the Rosary, but most of all she enjoyed making others happy. She would do anything and everything for anyone. Eline was an amazing woman who will be missed by many people. We are thankful to have many wonderful memories to fill this void in our lives. We thank you for sharing this special time with us. Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton starting with visitation at 9am with a rosary recited at 10:30 am. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11am with Rev. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers are James Poole, Jason Pekar, Jerry Wayne Pekar, Gilbert Pekar, Todd Guillory and Donnie Kalmus. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Arias and Mike Snyder. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Wharton EMS, especially Paul Shannon and Jeremy Copeland for all their help, and to St. Lukes Hospital in Houston for the loving care for Eline and the entire Pekar family. Memorials can be made to Holy Family Church, 2011 Briar Lane in Wharton.
