Pete Duran, Jr., age 66 of Wharton died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born on March 9, 1947 in Wharton, TX a son of the late Pete Sr. and Patricia Nunez Duran. Mr. Duran was a life-long resident of Wharton. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy. Pete worked for many years for Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring in 2011. Pete enjoyed photography, riding his Harley, watching the Dallas Cowboys and spoiling his grandsons. In addition to his parents, his brothers, Robert and Gilbert Duran also preceded him in death. A visitation was held on Friday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with the funeral service to be held at 10 am Saturday February 15, 2014 at Wharton Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Darnell officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Survivors include his daughters, Reagan Duran Garcia and husband, Chris of Richmond, and Chelsea Duran of Richmond, sisters, Lupe Duran of Houston, Andrea Duran and Olga Duran both of Wharton and brother, Rick Duran of Wharton, grandsons, Jacob Duran, Caleb Garcia, Matthew Garcia and Mason Cordova. Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
