Ervin Eddie Selcer

Ervin E Selcer                         Ervin Eddie Selcer, age 83 of Wharton died Sunday morning, April 27, 2014 at a Wharton nursing facility following a lengthy illness.  He was born on September 20, 1930 in Wharton, Texas, to the late Fritz William (Dick) and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Chudalla Selcer.                         Ervin was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School and Wharton County Junior College. He later attended and graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a degree in Agronomy. Ervin served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army as a Radar Specialist. He married the love of his life, Judith Renee Uhr in 1956 in San Antonio, Texas. He worked for Celanese Chemical Company for many years in Bishop and Bay City, Texas. He also worked on various projects on the East Coast, the Mid East, Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Ervin retired from Occidental Chemical Company in Lake Charles, LA and returned to live in Wharton, Texas. He was active in the Wharton area, serving as Lions Club president and on the board of the Wharton County Historical Society, along with his church activities at First United Methodist Church in Wharton. In addition to his parents, Ervin was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Selcer and son, Tod Christopher Selcer.                                     Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church in Wharton with Rev. Meredith Wende officiating.                         Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Judy Selcer of Wharton, sons, Toby Selcer and wife, Amanda of Texas City, Tom Selcer and wife, Traci of New Braunfels, and daughter Tina Jones and husband, Bill of Bedford; grandchildren, Kate Selcer Gomez and husband, Chris, Amy Selcer, Jacob Selcer, Mykala Selcer, and Christopher Jones; great grandchildren, Hannah, Ava, Christopher and Silas Gomez.                         Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 22246 West Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas, 77030 The family would like to thank all the angels who helped with loving care, the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living, the Generations Unit at Wharton Nursing and Rehab, Amed Hospice, especially Ray Fore with Amed Hospice.           Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
