Byron Gordon, age 80 of Wharton died Saturday morning, May 3, 2014 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 6, 1933 in Sparta, Illinois, a son of the late Francis E. and Geraldine Lively Gordon. Byron was a raised in Illinois and Missouri and graduated from Rolla School of Mines in Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He served our country in the United States Marines, earning his honorable discharge in 1961. He worked for Schlumberger and Baylor Company for many years before retiring in 2000. In addition to his parents, his sister, Mary Gutreuter and brother, Marvin A Gordon, preceded him in death. Following cremation, memorial services were held on Monday evening May 5, at Wharton Funeral Home, at 7 pm with Mr. Jim Smith officiating. Survivors include his sisters, Marie Toadvine of Cynthiana, KY, Robyn Cochrane of Belleville, IL, and Elva Inselman and husband, Howard of Lincoln, IL, brother, Francis E. Gordon, Jr. and wife Rita of Andover OH and sister-in-law, Jean Gordon of Grand bay AL. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
