Robert W. Lowdermilk, Sr. Robert Wade Lowdermilk, Sr., 81, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Friday August 29, 2014, at a Houston hospital. He was born February 20, 1933, in Chelyan, West Virginia to parents Edward Wade Lowdermilk and Mae Katherine Tatum Lowdermilk. Bob was raised in West Virginia and graduated from high school there. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of 1951. He served our country Honorably and retired from the Air Force after 20 years obtaining the rank of MSGT in 1971. On July 11, 1953 he married Mary Ann Turner in Beaumont, Texas. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2007. On December 6, 2008, Bob married Shirlene Tomanek in Wharton. After his time in the military, Bob went on to become an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus Insurance. In time he rose to be a General Agent covering a large portion of Texas. Bob loved hunting and fishing traveling to many places to hunt and fish, football, and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, and Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served in many capacities, including, being on the Finance Committee, and participating in many raffle and fundraisers for the church. Bob was also instrumental in establishing the Spring Gala, to help fund the Family Life Center. In addition to his parents and first wife, his daughter, Lillian Kolojaco, brother, Harry Elmo Lowdermilk and sister, Kay Lowdermilk Meadows, preceded Robert in death. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 after 5 pm with a Vigil Service at 7 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10 am from Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Fr. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako and Fr. Joe Vrana officiating. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery in Houston on Friday, September 5 at 11 am. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Wade Lowdermilk, Jr., Leo Lowdermilk, Sam Lowdermilk, Larry Lowdermilk, David Tomanek and Mike Tomanek Bob is survived by his wife, Shirlene Lowdermilk of Wharton, sons, Robert W. Lowdermilk, Jr. and wife, Sarah of San Diego, CA and Leo Thomas Lowdermilk of Rosenberg, daughters, Evelyn Morales and husband, Ray of Friendswood, Mary Ann Holmes of Friendswood, Theresa Lowdermilk of Baytown, Katherine Wooten and husband, Don of Baytown, and Judith Watkins Bennett and husband, Michael of Baytown, brothers, James Larry Lowdermilk of Nashville, TN and Samuel Ernest Lowdermilk and wife, Stephanie of Ocean Springs, MS. 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.
