Judy Chambers, age 64 of Wharton and formerly of East Bernard passed away Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014 in a Houston hospital following a 4-year battle with cancer. She was born on December 31, 1949 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of the late Richard “Dick” Obenhaus and LaVerne Muesse Obenhaus. Judy was raised in the Eagle Lake area and graduated from Eagle Lake High School. She worked for many years at Southwestern Bell in Columbus, the credit bureau, for Howard Patton at Ace Hardware in Wharton and later worked at State Farm Insurance in Wharton as an insurance specialist. Judy married Charles Chambers on June 9, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. She enjoyed her grandchildren and traveling. Visitation was held on Friday evening, September 19 from 5 till 7 pm at First Baptist Church Wharton, 507 North Fulton in Wharton. Funeral Services will be held Today, Saturday, September 20 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Wishert officiating. Serving, as pallbearers will be Joey Polak, Pat Polak, Justin Kubicek, Benji Polak, Kris Matura and Nate Kovar. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Wharton Rotary Club. Judy is survived by her husband of over 21 years, Charles Chambers of Wharton, son, Jeffrey Chumchal of East Bernard, mother, LaVerne Obenhaus of Wharton, brother, Gerald Obenhaus and wife, Ardine of Orange, and her grandchildren, Aubrey, Whitney and Kelsey Chumchal. Her nieces and nephews, Stacey and Jim Landrith, Holly and Jeremy Smith, and Nickie and Shane Parker. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
