Sandra Zgabay, age 73 of Wharton passed away Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2014 at a Sugar Land hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 23, 1941 in Utica, New York, a daughter of the late Gerald and Mildred Batsford Hanagan. Sandra was a raised in New York and graduated from school there. She married August Zgabay on December 27, 1966 in Reno, Nevada. Sandra worked for NASA for many years as a Quality Control inspector and later for several insurance companies in the Wharton area. She enjoyed shopping on QVC, internet games, reading and traveling, especially back home to her place in New York. Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 8 from 11 am until service time at 1PM at Wharton Funeral Home. Deacon William Bolf will officiate the services. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery in Utica, New York on Friday, October 10, 2014. Survivors include her husband, August Zgabay of Wharton, daughter, Christine Rasberry and husband, Richard of Angelton, son, Gerald Zgabay of Houston and sister, Helenanne Hill of Whitesboro New York. Her grandchildren, Zy Zgabay, Justin Hubenak, Matthew Hayes, Cameron Hatyes, and Timothy Hayes also survive, along with great grandchild, Landon Zgabay.
