Mrs. Stella Rivas Rodriguez, of Wharton, Texas, died at 3:11pm on Friday, October 24, 2014, of cardiac arrest. She was a young 70 years old. Stella Rivas Rodriguez was born on July 22, 1944, in Wharton Texas and was the eldest daughter of Guadalupe Perez Rivas and Benito Rivas, Sr. Stella Rivas Rodriguez had been a widow of 9 months, when her beloved husband, Manuel Rodriguez, Sr., passed away on January 25, 2014. They were married in Wharton, Texas on November 1, 1961 and would have celebrated 53 years of blissful marriage this year. She is survived by her children: Estella Rodriguez Garza of Wharton, TX, Manuel Rodriguez, Jr., of Houston, Texas, Martin C. Rodriguez of Houston, Texas, Veronica A Rodriguez of Westland, Michigan, and Samuel J Rodriguez, of Houston, Texas. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Michol Garza Quinney, Myranda Garza Carmona, Mario Garza, Marcus Garza, Casha Rodriguez, Sean Rodriguez, Amanda Rodriguez, Matthew T Rodriguez, Keith Rodriguez, and Kelly Rodriguez. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, a dog, Mimi, and a cat Puffee. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family, friends, and acquaintances. Her siblings include Benito Rivas, Jr (deceased), Ernesto Rivas of Houston, Texas, Elida Rivas Navarro of Lissie, Texas, Eva Rivas Garcia of Rosenberg, Texas, Elias Rivas of Houston, Texas, Eduardo Jose Rivas, and Elton John Rivas, both of Houston, Texas. Stella Rivas Rodriguez was a graduate of Wharton County Community College School of Nursing, graduating as a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a practicing nurse of excellent standing for over 30 years, working both in Wharton and Houston hospitals and nursing homes. She was a fan of telenovelas and Mexican mariachi music. She loved her husband and her family, and her friends. Her hobbies included reading, talking to family and friends, reading her tarot cards and going out to eat. A rosary was recited Monday evening on October 27, 2014 at 7:00pm at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Cremation followed.
