JoAnn Hofferek JoAnn Hofferek, 83, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Tuesday November 4, 2014 in a Victoria hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 14, 1931 in Smithville, Texas, a daughter of the late Lonnie Elmer Yancey, Sr. and Lola Myrtle Jackson Yancey. JoAnn was raised in the Smithville area and graduated from Smithville High School before attending Business College in Austin. She married Walter William Hofferek on January 24, 1959 in Smithville, TX. She was a homemaker all her adult life and stayed home to raise their children. She enjoyed cleaning, in fact, she was seldom seen without a without a broom in her hand or dish washing gloves on her hands. Once the grandchildren arrived, her attention was shifted to spoiling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Diehl, and June Allen, brothers, Jack, George and Jerry Yancey. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving, as pallbearers will be Ross Chumchal, Matt Hofferek, Sam Hofferek, Ashley Friedrichs, Kourtney Lehnert and Sissy Williamson. JoAnn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter William Hofferek, Sr., son, Walter “Bo” William Hofferek, Jr. and wife, Doris of Victoria, daughter, Cheryl Friedrichs and husband, Pepper of Ganado, sisters, Leah Kubicek of Smithville and Bobbie Jones of Houston, brothers, Lonnie “Tom” E. Yancey, Jr. of Smithville, Johnnie Yancey and wife, Virginia of Alum Creek, and Bucky Yancey of Houston, grandchildren, Ashley Friedrichs, Ross Chumchal, Matt Hofferek, Sam Hofferek, Rebecca Alvarez, Tara Lehnert and Stephanie Boone, and great grandchildren, Kourtney Lehnert, Eli Alvarez and Taylor Boone.
