Robert Caldwell, age 74 of Wharton passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 in Wharton. He was born on November 7, 1940 in Wharton, the son of the late J.F. “Mutt” Caldwell and Ruth Hayhurst Caldwell. Robert was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School. Robert worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company retiring after 20 years and recently worked as a driver for Colorado Valley Transit Company. Robert was joined in marriage to the former Miss Sue Kennedy with a ceremony held at his mother’s house in Wharton on November 18, 1961. Robert served in the Army Reserves and was of Baptist Faith. He loved to be involved with his daughters in their barrel racing activities and he loved to talk horse talk. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 12 pm until 2 pm. Funeral Services will be following the visitation at 2 pm at Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. George Hayhurst, III officiating. A private family graveside will follow. Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Matthews, Jason Waller, John Waller, David Peevy, Mathew Goetsch, and Gerald Kennedy. Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years Sue Caldwell of Wharton, daughters, Amanda Caldwell of Wharton and Deborah O’Quinn of Leander, sons, Rodney Matthews of Wharton and Robert Caldwell, Jr. of Wharton, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, J.F. “Mutt” and Ruth Caldwell. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
