Robert Kenneth Barnett, Sr., age 69 of Wharton died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2014 in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. He was born on September 8, 1945 in El Campo, a son of the late Guy and Ruby Davis Barnett. Ken was a raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School, and later attended WCJC. Ken married Rebecca Black on February 13, 1966 in Wharton. He was the owner of Ken Barnett Real Estate in Wharton for many years. Ken enjoyed hunting and being with his family. He was very active in many civic organizations including, Wharton Lions Club, Wharton Chamber of Commerce, Wharton Little League and Just Do It Now. Ken was a Elder of Christ Is Life Church. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Norman Barnett. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6th from 10 am until 12 noon at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2pm at Rescue Church in Wharton with Pastor Mike Atherton and Pastor Paul Steib officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rob Barnett, Taylor Barnett, Kenny Barnett, Josh Barnett, Dylan Martinez, Jonathan Henny, Jorge Perrez and Xzavier Sims. Survivors include his wife, Becky, sons, Bobby Barnett and wife Mandy of Wharton, Guy Barnett and partner, Billy Presnull of Houston and daughter, Rachel Barnett of East Bernard, sisters in law, Velma Louise Barnett of Pasadena, Shirley Atherton, Susan Black Long and brother in law, Andy Black, grandchildren, Joshua Barnett, Brittany and Marissa Sanchez, Rob Barnett, Taylor Barnett and Kenny Barnett, great grandchildren, Brayden and Andrew Barnett.
