Hulan Shotwell, Jr., age 73 of Wharton died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in a Wharton nursing home after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on March 5, 1941 in Houston, a son of the late Hulan Shotwell, Sr. and Mary Geraldine Prell Shotwell. Hulan was a raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in 1959, and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1963, with a degree in Business Administration. Hulan retired from BP Amoco as an Assistant Purchasing Manager. He was a former resident of Bay City and Alvin. He farmed and ranched early after graduation with his father. After retirement from BP Amoco he owned and operated a local lawn service. Hulan was an avid fisherman and was Baptist by faith. Visitation was held on Thursday, December 4th from 5 pm until 7 pm at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton with Rev. Don Hurley and Rev. Tony Wishert officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Eckmann, Patrick Dittlinger, John Williams, Bob Stokes, Monty Carmichael, Bob Priddy, Ben Muhlhausen, James Kostka, Charles Chambers and Roy Taylor. Survivors include his daughter, Traci Eckmann and husband, Bill, of Lufkin, sister, Terry Shotwell Sullivan of Wharton granddaughter, Kaitlen Eckmann of Fort Worth, niece and husband, Lee and Patrick Dittlinger and great nephews Bryce, Reece, Riley and Blake Dittlinger.
