Teresa Ramirez, age 67, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, following a brief illness. She was born November 15, 1947, in Wharton to the late Alfredo Gusman and Bernarda Alcorta Gusman. Teresa was raised in Wharton and attended schools there. She married Martin Ramirez Jr on September 8, 1965 in Glen Flora. Teresa worked at Texas Instruments for 16 years before retiring to become a homemaker. Her favorite activities included bingo, slots, chalupa, playing Captain Jack, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching baseball. In addition to her parents, her brother, Richard Gusman, preceded Teresa in death. Survivors include her husband of over 49 years; Martin Ramirez Jr of Wharton; daughters, Lupe Acosta and husband Jose “Pepe” of Wharton, Mary Helen Duran and husband Rolando of Wharton, Christina Garcia and husband Chris of Wharton, Terrie Ramirez and Robert Cantu of Wharton; sons, Martin Ramirez III and wife Janie of Wharton, Ruben Ramirez of Wharton and Robert Ramirez of Wharton; sisters, Lucinda Belasquez of Wharton and Consuelo Correa of Green Rock, IL; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation and a Rosary led by Deacon David Valdez was held on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Wharton Funeral Home starting at 3 p.m with the Rosary at 6 p.m. The Funeral service was held at 10 AM Monday, January 19, 2015 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Ty Bazar officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
