Lena Quintanilla

Lena Quintanilla, 86, of Wharton, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1928, in Gonzales, Texas to parents Louis Ybarbo Sr and Elisa Maldonado Ybarbo. Lena was raised in the Gonzales area and later moved to Wharton. She married the love of her life Ascension Quintanilla on April 13, 1942 in Wharton. Lena worked many years for Sears and then cleaned houses for several local doctors. Lena was a member of the Catholic Daughters, a Share volunteer, Houston Hospice Volunteer, helped with numerous bazaars and fundraisers at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Lena was very strong in her Catholic faith. In addition to her parents, her sisters Frances Munoz and Amelia Flores, brothers, Louis Ybarbo Jr and Julian Ybarbo preceded Lena in death. Visitation was held Thursday, January 22, 2015 evening with a 7 pm Rosary recited by Deacon David Valdez and the Catholic Daughters at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving, as pallbearers are Craig Quintanilla, Eric Quintanilla, Marcus Aguirre, Andrew Cordero, Anthony Quintanilla and Michael Quintanilla. Following the service the family will have a reception at Holy Family Catholic Church Family Life Center. Lena is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ascension Quintanilla, Sr. of Wharton, daughters, Mary Alice Aguirre and husband Alejandro of Clear Lake, Tx, Linda Castro and husband Pascual of Wharton, Gloria Garza and husband Daniel of Wharton; sons, Ascension “Junior” Quintanilla, Jr and wife Lupe of Wharton and Frank Quintanilla and Significant Other Darsie Gillum of Humble; sister, Janie Sedillo and husband Mike of Lane City, brother Bruno Ybarbo Sr of Wharton; grandchildren, Marcus Aguirre, Craig Quintanilla, Eric Quintanilla, Anthony Quintanilla, Michael Quintanilla, Nicolas Castro, Nicole Terrazas, Christine Cordero and Andrew Cordero; 12 great grandchildren with another one on the way (Lena Marrisol Cordero). The family wishes to express their gratitude for the staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center and all the staff of Houston Hospice, especially Joe Hochman, RN and Nately Delgado, CNA.
